Chocolate Cake

Here’s a recipe for a classic and delicious chocolate cake:

Ingredients:

For the cake:

  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 ½ teaspoons baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips

For the frosting:

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • ¼ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • ¼ cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions:

Making the cake:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. Alternately add the dry ingredients and milk to the wet ingredients, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.
  5. Fold in the chocolate chips.
  6. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans.
  7. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  8. Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes before inverting them onto wire racks to cool completely.

Making the frosting:

  1. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and powdered sugar until light and fluffy.
  2. Beat in the cocoa powder, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  3. Once the cakes are completely cooled, frost the top of one cake layer and place the other cake layer on top.
  4. Frost the top and sides of the cake.

Tips:

  • For a richer chocolate flavor, use dark cocoa powder instead of unsweetened cocoa powder.
  • To make the cake even more moist, add 1 cup of sour cream to the batter.

  3. Frost the cooled cake layers and enjoy!
