Here’s a recipe for a classic chocolate cake:

Ingredients:

  • For the dry ingredients:
    • 2 cups all-purpose flour
    • ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
    • 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
    • 1 ½ teaspoons baking soda
    • 1 teaspoon salt
  • For the wet ingredients:
    • 2 cups granulated sugar
    • 2 large eggs
    • 1 cup milk
    • ½ cup vegetable oil
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
    • 1 cup boiling water

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. Combine dry ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
  3. Combine wet ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the sugar, eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla extract until well combined.
  4. Gradually add wet ingredients to dry ingredients: Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined. Do not overmix.
  5. Incorporate boiling water: Slowly stir in the boiling water until the batter is smooth.
  6. Divide batter: Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans.
  7. Bake: Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  8. Cool: Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes before inverting them onto wire racks to cool completely.
  9. Frost: Once the cakes are completely cooled, frost them with your favorite chocolate frosting.

Tips:

  • For a richer chocolate flavor, use dark cocoa powder.
  • To make the cake even more moist, add 1 cup of sour cream to the batter.
  • For a decadent chocolate frosting, try this recipe:
    • Ingredients:
      • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
      • 3 cups powdered sugar
      • ¼ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
      • ¼ cup heavy cream
      • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
    • Instructions:
      1. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and powdered sugar until light and fluffy.
      2. Beat in the cocoa powder, heavy cream, and vanilla extract until smooth.
      3. Frost the cooled cake layers and enjoy!
